The LLB Qualifying Law Degree syllabus has been selected and meets the criteria approved by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and Bar Standards Board. This programme offers highly recognised and diverse transferable skills across multiple industries and roles, plus is required by students who wish to become a barrister or a solicitor in England, Wales and many common law jurisdictions.

This online programme is designed to give students the opportunity to extend their employability skills within our dedicated pro bono and research modules, and provides extensive support in careers development with specific advice suited to students wishing to further their careers practicing law and/ within law.

Through the distance learning Qualifying Law Degree, students will develop a high level of comprehension and demonstrate critical analysis using legal databases such as; LexisLibrary and WestLaw, primary and secondary research, workshops and case studies. You will have access to extensive external resources, student discussions and our virtual learning environment ilearn, which can be accessed in hours which are suitable for you.

Tutors are within easy reach in the form of live chats, active forums and are dedicated to different time zones, ensuring that all students are in close contact.

Duration and study time recommendation

In order to achieve a Qualifying Law Degree accredited by the Solicitor’s Regulatory Authority and Bar Standards Board, this course must be completed within a maximum registration period of 6 years. However, the Arden University learning and assessment model gives our distance learning students’ flexibility in setting their own pace of study. This means that the course can be completed in a minimum period of 3 years.

We recommend an average of 15-20 hours study time per week for the online Qualifying Law Degree course.

International opportunities

Many common law countries accept this programme as the academic element of legal training and students are able to develop their careers within law and a number of other professions world-wide.

International or British students who meet our admissions criteria are able to apply to study for the distance learning Qualifying Law Degree but may require further training within their specified country to practice law outside England and Wales. The student should contact the regulating body in his / her own jurisdiction and confirm that the English LLB fulfils academic requirements.

Entry Requirements

Two Subjects at GCE A level or equivalent, plus passes at grade C or above in three subjects at GCSE level or equivalent; or

Completion of a recognised Access Programme or equivalent.

English ability equivalent to an IELTS score of 6.0 if English is not the first language.

Candidates who demonstrate an ability to study the programme as evidenced through a personal statement (of between 200-300 words) that addresses their motivation for undertaking the programme; including their references, relevant prior experience and qualifications.

Applications without these qualifications will be considered on an individual basis.

Awarding your qualification

Your course is awarded by the university or professional institution. On completion you receive exactly the same certificate as an on campus student and will even be invited to the same graduation ceremony.

Providing you with everything you need to succeed

Upon completion of this degree students may also choose to work in private practice as a paralegal, carrying out many of the tasks and roles of a qualified solicitor.

The skills you gain from this LLB will also open up opportunities for you in many other professions, including; business and commerce, court services, banking and finance, local and central government, police and prison services, social work and teaching.

Additional career paths include law centres, charities and the armed forces. Qualified solicitors may also work in other legal and non-legal fields such as; legal executives, judges, legal cashiers and secretaries as well as political professionals.
