Graduates with work experience are more successful
A BBC article today highlighted the importance of work experience in the graduate job market, something felt by countless students who can combine studying with work through RDI.
The research suggests that applications for graduate positions have increased by 19%, and that those applicants without work experience are often disregarded at an early stage. It continues to say that those graduates who have already spent time working for a company are more successful in their application.
Many students with RDI also notice similar results, as they start their career in a relatively low or administrative position while studying their degree online - but the combination of study and work enhances both aspects of their lives.

One such student in Andy Cain, who studied the BSc (Hons) Business Computing through RDI:
“I left school at 16 and went straight into work – I had no clue what I really wanted to do. My employers have been very supportive, and they’ve even sponsored me for some of my modules. I had a promotion after completing my HND, and I’ve just been successful in my application for another promotion since completing the BSc.”
A number of students have commented on the career benefits that distance learning gives them, allowing students to effectively graduate with three years work experience – putting them well ahead of their campus-based counterparts in the job market.
