Originally developed by Warwick Business School (WBS) and now in its 11th year, BIG is the University of Warwick’s leading programme that helps owner managers of small to medium sized businesses.

The Challenge

Owner managers and Managing Directors, in their everyday life, are presented with many different opportunities and dilemmas. BIG is designed to help you meeting these challenges with renewed enthusiasm and direction.

The Aim

BIG builds on your strengths – as a leader, a manager and an entrepreneur and help you to position your firm ready for the future, tackling the fundamentals of growth management for your business.

The Objectives

  • To challenge you to be realistic on where you are now; where you want to be and how you are going to get there

  • To work with you to develop a robust growth plan

  • To focus you on actions to implement your vision

The Benefits

  • A 3-year growth plan to implement
  • Improved clarity over strategic direction
  • Better profit margin and increase in sales
  • Reinforce quality into services to clients and customers
  • Greater effectiveness in mobilising leaders and their teams
  • Enhanced confidence in managing challenges ahead
  • Re-energised and refreshed
  • Regain the fun in running and growing the business

What else can I gain from BIG?

  • Focus on the things that really matter
  • A period to trigger innovative ideas for growth
  • A period to tap into valuable resources: other business owners, team of faculty, and business mentors
  • A new and sustainable network of like-minded business people
  • A sense of relief that others face similar challenges as you do

The programme is held over three months, however, candidates usually find that the effects are far reaching, not only in the results, but the relationship they have with the facilitators and fellow participants, which often goes on for many years.

What is a BIG Taster Workshop?

A taster workshop aims to provide you with an opportunity to sample the programme content, the benefits, the delivery styles, and to reassure yourself that the time taken out of your business for the BIG programme will be time well spent.

As part of the taster workshop you will have the opportunity to meet with the past participants of BIG as well as the faculty and business mentors.

You will be able to assess whether the programme is for you.

What will I miss if I don’t attend the taster?

You may miss an opportunity to gain motivation to seek further development .

You may miss an opportunity to share the burden and challenges of managing and running a business. We have found that the taster provided a rare forum in which managing directors discuss issues with like-minded individuals.
