V Kospanos

Name: Vasileios Kospanos
Course: MBA
University of Wales

"I work full time for a not for profit organisation in London – I am the Conference Manager which is a commercial role.

My previous studies

I’ve always had an MBA in mind, but I studied my degree at Wolverhampton University and then decided to start working after graduation. A couple of friends that I studied with decided to stay on and study their Masters straight away, but I decided to start work. I think that getting some work experience and then studying my MBA later in life has been invaluable to me and has afforded me the best career progression.

Putting theory into practice

I’ve studied 6 modules so far and have applied what I’ve learnt to my role. For example, we were setting our strategy for the next few years and I used a matrix that we’d covered in one of these modules. It helped us to decide which strategies to employ. I feel that my studies have helped me to contribute to the growth of the company, along with other parts of the company. My employer has part-funded my course and they value the opinions and knowledge that I have gained through my studies

I’ve been networking with 2 other students on my programme (both of which are half way around the world!) and we discuss issues about the course and also other things.

I think my MBA is a lot of work but it’s worth the sacrifice of my personal time and some of my holidays from work. I’ve even studied on a beach on holiday before!"
